A project pan in the beauty sense is where you try to go through specific products in your collection all the way through. I’ve been trying to pick out specific products in my collection to get through because I realize as a beauty collector, when you have too many products, you lose track and forget how long you’ve had a product for.
I love collecting makeup because there’s so many different formulas, unique products, different shades and colours in general excites me. I loved the idea of project pan because it not only helps you realize how much it takes to actually go through a product but it makes you realize how wasteful it is to keep expired makeup and throw it out unused. Project panning also helps you realize if you truly do love the product, you’re working so hard to get rid of.
Project pan is not only eco-friendly and helps you be less wasteful, but it also helps you be more consumer conscious. When I hit Sephora’s VIB Rouge last year, that is when I realize I’ve gone too far. I’ve spent over $1,000 at Sephora in one year – that’s insane. Granted, it’s probably my skincare more than my makeup that made me spend that much, but I think it’s important to take a look at what you already have and use it up in creative ways.
I’ve started this project pan in beginning of March (or beginning of the pandemic lockdown). I shall keep you updated on my progress along the way and I will also be posting about future project pans and my thoughts. I think what I love about reading and watching other project pans is hearing if they would repurchase the product and their overall opinion on it.
You’ll notice I kept out foundation, setting spray, eyeliner, and brow products. I think it’s unfair to include products that in my collection permanently because I use them everyday or to include products that I never use like brows.
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer
So I actually have two of these concealers but both haven’t yet been fully used up. I use them more as eyeshadow primers than I actually do concealers. Lately, I’ve been breaking out a lot more due to work stress and over consumption of high sodium foods like ramen and chips. I am obsessed with this concealer so far, I love the high coverage without it looking cakey and it covers up my eye veins when I prime them for eyeshadow. As for repurchasing, I might not be able too because I did purchase these in the states in person. Canada doesn’t have tarte shape tape here and if I was to order it, I’m unsure if I could avoid duties and shipping costs.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light
If you look close enough, I’ve gotten the edges to peak through. I honestly have no idea if this does anything to my skin when I set it. I use the L’Oreal Infallible 24Hr Fresh wear foundation and Colourpop’s Pretty Fresh foundation and I use this to lock in oils while still giving me a nice glisten, but I haven’t noticed anything. I haven’t repurchased it in a single compact but I did recently buy the Mini Ambient Lighting Edit during the VIB sale so maybe that’ll be in my next project pan. As for a single compact, I won’t be repurchasing until I see results.
Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Lightning Dust and Fire Crystal
Okay I know what you’re thinking, this product is busted. I blame myself for this. I dropped it from 2 feet high and a bunch of powder separated so I had to press it back in with my fingers – gross I know. I wonder if Fenty Beauty has Lightning Dust in a single eyeshadow pan because I’d love to see it. The Fire Crystal shade has too much glitter for me to wear on an everyday basis. I do put on bold looks occasionally but I wouldn’t go for a glitter neutral highlighter, I would do a purple or blue glitter packed highlighter. I want to repurchase this but $36 for technically one shade? Doesn’t seem worth it to me. Unless Fenty comes out with a solo Lightning Dust one, full pan, then sign me up!
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
A classic. This was the first product I’ve ever hit pan on and man, did it feel refreshing. I honestly do love this bronzer and it nicely warms up the skin without it looking too orange or red. But I’m bored of this product. Bronzers can be so fun and I have plenty in my collection I can’t wait to play with. I’m at a breaking point with this bronzer where I’m not even excited to use it. I don’t understand the packaging whatsoever, why is it in this bulky box, the mirror sucks, the brush it comes with is unusable and totally not travel friendly.
Burt’s Bees Blush in Bare Peach
Shouts out to KathleenLights for recommending the Burt’s Bees blushes because they’re amazing! They’re about $14 CAD and they give you a lot of product. The major reason why this hit pan for me was because I was having an e-girl moment where blush was packed onto the apples of my cheeks, my temples, my eyelids and my nose – I had a phase. Kathleen suggested the shade toasted cinnamon but I kept gravitating towards bare peach and I’m so glad I went with my decision! I won’t repurchase this product as much as I love it. I currently have a Sailor Moon blush calling out to me and I can’t wait to dig into it.
Benefit Roller Lash
Another Benefit product I’m trying to use up. I absolutely love the roller lash for my Asian droopy eyelashes. I have eyelashes guys! You just cannot see them. But this mascara is amazing to showcase them. They leave the curl up and it doesn’t smudge everywhere. The drier the mascara is the better. I personally think I’ve used this up completely, but I just can’t get rid of it. I’ve already stocked up on one more of it but I really need to try the L’Oreal Lash Paradise. I need to not spend over $20 on mascara that needs to be thrown out after 2 months. It just doesn’t make any sense. But don’t get me wrong, this mascara is beautiful, amazing and all claims I’ve heard about it ring true.
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow
My most complimented on product worn ever. Every time I wear this gloss, all I get are girls asking me what I’m wearing and men complimenting how ‘juicy’ my lips look. I’m not complaining, I need all the validation I can get. I’m so sad though, you can see through the bottom and it’s been really hard for me to continuously apply more on because I have to scrape the sides of the gloss to reapply them. I don’t know if I’m going to repurchase because of the price and how many more glosses out there I could try. But I feel like I should always have this in my collection because it’s the only noticeable part of my makeup routine people seem to care about.
Charlotte Tillbury Lip Cheat Re-Shape & Re-Size Lip Liner in Pillow Talk
This is what I wear under my Fenty Beauty gloss bomb. I completely understand the hype with the Pillow Talk lipstick. I have been trying to dive into more of the classic nudes everyone always talks about. My next mission is to see Mac’s Velvet Teddy lipstick because shocking, I’ve never tried it before. I won’t repurchase this lipliner because of the price again and I’ve honestly got so many other lipliners that I need to get through. I’m happy about the size I’ve got it down too!
Colourpop’s Dream St palette with Kathleen Lights
Save the most exciting part of project pan for last, an eyeshadow palette. I’ve had this palette for over 3 years now, yes, disgusting I know. I have accumulated a lot more palettes since then so I’ve been leaving this one in the dust since getting newer and shiner products. This was the sole reason why I wanted to start project panning because eyeshadow palettes have been pumping out like no one’s business. I keep buying them but when have I actually gone through one? As you can see, Moony and Shooting Star has a major dip but no pan yet. I’ve been really bad with using this palette. I kept going back to the So Jaded palette and Going Coconuts palette. Hopefully this blog posts will hold me accountable and make me use it more often. I think I’m just bored of the shimmers in this palette, it doesn’t excite me as much as it use too. I need Colourpop to come out with Moony as a single shadow because honestly, that inner corner highlight is popping on it!
I’ll check back within months of this project pan to show you my progress, hopefully I won’t forget and just throw them out. I might do some looks if anyone is interested in how I wear the Dream St. palette.
Please let me know in the comments if you’ve liked any of the products I’ve shown or if you have any suggestions for me for my next project pan.
